The real point to understand birth rite succession and spiritual succession is to understand which principle is higher, they want for one's own Son's to inherent a position of Wizard (Sadik) is understandable and can be achieved and often was but when Groups depend on such things this leads to the corruption of Dynasties.
Understanding Muhammad's line starts with knowing who the Sons of Ishmael are;
Nebaioth, Kedar, Addeel, Mibsam, Mishma Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, Kedemah, Mahalath or Bashemath, a daughter who married Esau. From Nebaioth's Line came the Tribe of Quraysh.
Mainstream Sunni View is Tribes do not Matter.
Mainstream Shia View is Everything relies on the Tribe of Quraysh.
The Sufi-Sunni Answer:
First and foremost is that succession of leadership must be based on the worthiness of Knowledge.
Second all 12 Tribes of Ishmael at first spring of Islam were worthy for Succession if they as individuals met the requirement of Having Knowledge and good behavior to lead. It is also clear that with Muhammad, tribal pride was outlawed. It is clear that birth rite succession must be based, not on tribes, but the well learned son of a leader. Even in this, the son of the leader must fit requirements such as correct behavior, worthy knowledge of Islam and a noble reputation as a Muslim. Third have best Knowledge of the Great Imams that continue after the time of Ali, it is Clear the death of the 12th Imam was prof enough that the Shia were mislead from the belonging, the very Imam system of the Shia also seriously contradicts The Sunnah and all Strong Hadiths. It's important to know that none of these Imams depicted themselves as demigods or men of divine power. Anything that seems as though they said such is a misinterpretation. Many Shia have stated that the Imams were so transparent of self that they were vessels for Allah. This can be said of several Imams and saints that the Shia do not even recognize, such as Imam Birgivi, the Last Great Saint. Does this mean he was divine? No. It is common knowledge among both Sunnis and Sufi-Sunnis that, after the Death of the 12th Imam, countless texts were manipulated and in many cases completely rewritten. Today we are so far away from birth rite succession that we the Last of pure-Qadiriyyah better known as Bayramiyyah have completely abolished Father to Son Succession of Masters, we do this to prevent becoming like our offshoots. This does not mean everyone in the offshoots of Qadiriyyah is a deviating Sufi. It is only the Bayramiyyah that has remained intact, and this is because of Imam Birgivi.
